Come join us for Mochi-tsuki or pounding of rice to make mochi rice cakes. These cakes are believed by some to hold the mythical power of strength and gaining good fortune for those that consumed it. Motchi-tsuki is a traditional event usually held in December by families, communities and organizations to make mochi for the upcoming New Year’s celebration for Japanese. Even though it is a very popular food item at this time of year, it can also be eaten throughout the year either by itself or as a confectionery.
