Hanamatsuri / April Shotsuki Hoyo Service

April 21 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Come and celebrate Hanamatsuri or Flower Festival with us. This observance is to celebrate the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who later became enlightened as Shakyamuni Buddha. The Hanamido that was prepared and decorated yesterday is a small shrine or “sacred flower hall” that represents Lumbini’s Garden where the Prince was born. In the center of the Hanamido is a statue of the Baby Buddha, Tanjo Butsu. Members of the Sangha may participate in honoring the Buddha by pouring sweet tea over the statue. The tea represents the rain that fell over Lumbini’s Garden on that day.

The Shotsuki Hoyo Service will honor those that have passed in the month of April. Please come and join us to remember our friends, relatives and loved ones.
