Religious Classes

At the Visalia Buddhist Temple, there are many classes and programs for all ages and varied interests. We invite you to attend any and all classes. There is no fee, with the exception of Koru Taiko. Many offer Certificates of Levels.

BASIC BUDDHISM

This class is offered on the second Monday of each month, year round. There is no fee and classes are held in the Annex of the Temple. This class is from 7-8 PM.

JODO SHINSHU DOCTRINE

This class is also offered on the second Monday of each month, year round. Monday and Tuesday classes are identical. There is no fee and classes are held in the Annex of the Temple. This class is from 8-9 PM.

METTA (Loving Kindness) MEDITATION

Non-denominational in nature, Metta Meditation is a practice of quieting the mind, relaxing the body, and learning to see what is in the world between our ears. Classes are at 9 AM on most Sunday mornings and last 45 minutes. There is no fee and meditation is in the Hondo of the Temple.

JO-SHIN CHANTING (Chanting of the Peaceful Mind)

Held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 11:30 until 12:30 PM in the Hondo. There is no fee. Technique, posture, sound, and an energetic approach are taught along with expanding our spiritual awareness of gratitude and joy for having been born into human life.

 TAIKO CLASSES (Japanese Drumming)

The taiko group of the Visalia Buddhist Temple is new and dynamic. Named “Koru Taiko”, which means the thunderous sound of Amida reverberating throughout the universe, taiko has its roots in temple life. While traditional and formal in training techniques, Koru Taiko will expand their sound with modern and experimental fusion. Classes are on the second and fourth Sundays and second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7-8:00 PM. The fee is $10 per month for members and $25 per month for non-members.
